Change is good. Some might even say change is tough. But I think it’s a little bit of both. After working for my current employer for just over three years, I’m now about to make a move to a new company. The three years were good, I met and worked with some very good people. But the mind inevitably craves the Big C’s (Change, Challenge and Compensation).

Anyone involved in the high-tech field knows that this is a ever evolving landscape. New technologies, languages, methodologies are constant and keeping up with them a challenge unto itself. The ideal job will have to doing what you know best while allowing you to explore and learn what you don’t. My current allowed for some of that initially, but after doing it for a few years, the opportunities dwindled.

So, the new job will provide these opportunities and more.

And also speaking of transitions, another big one is the fact that my wife and I are expecting our first child early next year. You can read the grand announcement on my wife’s site. We are very excited about becoming parents and are also a little worried/scared about all the changes that come with this transition. The sleepless nights that await us should be interesting.

Cheers

Frequent visitors to my site (I have them, right?) would notice that there hasn’t been any activity on this site in almost two months. A fairly hectic work schedule is mostly to be blamed for my delinquency and the sheer lack of time is my other reason.

Additionally, what time I do have is being spent on me learning to program Visual C# and the .NET Framework. Quite amazing how quickly you can create rich graphical Windows applications. I thought MFC was great, but this is phenomenal.

I hope to get back to more regular blogging very soon..so stay tuned.

Cheers

I’ve enjoyed using CPG for all this time, but the v2.0 of Gallery brought together a lot of features that were appealing to me. Additionally, with a nice WP-G2 plugin, I was able to better integrate G2 into Wordpress without having to hack at a theme.

Additionally, the user database is shared between WP and G2, and as such you only need to login once. So if you haven’t already registered to the Blog, please do so to use the Gallery.

The last console I played for any length of time was the 8-bit Nintendo back in the early to mid 90’s. But I quickly switched over to the PC as my gaming platform and didn’t look back. In the meanwhile, I largely ignored the Sega Genesis, Nintendo 64 and Gamecube, Sony Playstation and Playstation 2, and Microsoft Xbox. I did get a chance to play a couple of games on the Xbox, but that was shorted lived.

But with the introduction of the Xbox 360 and the live component and the general improvements in graphics and processor capabilities which compared very well, at least as far as graphics go, with the PC, I was intrigued.

So finally for my impending birthday, I got me a Xbox 360 premium package with GRAW as my starter game. Let me say for starters that this isn’t as easy game to start my Xbox 360 career on, but I’m catching on.

I also picked up Madden NFL 06 as that was one of the games that I had seen previewed a long time ago with the Xbox 360 was announced. I got the game used for a fairly good price, and that brings me to the downside of getting the Xbox 360. The price. Each new game that comes out is priced at $59.99 and seldom drops below that for a long period of time, so you can find yourself sinking a lot of money into the games very quickly.

Like others, I’m really digging the whole Xbox Live experience and have created a gamertag to maybe play against other online opponents when I get good at any game.

DeepCypher

So catch y’all in some corner of the Xbox Live world.

Cheers

Geeta and I got an opportunity over the long weekend to go white water rafting up in Maine with a company called Northern Outdoors. We rafted on the Kennebec river which is in The Forks, ME about 6 hours from our home. In addition to white water rafting for the first time, we decided that we’d camp out for the two nights that we were staying there to save some money and experience camping.

We arrived on Saturday to the campsite and were greeted with impending rain. We had just enough time to setup our tents and a simple tarp before the rain arrived. We managed to get a fire started, cook our dinner and eat while the rain continued to pour.

The night brought on more rain and made sleep hard to come by, when we woke the next day ready for the rafting, it was still raining. Rain doesn’t necessarily affect the act of rafting as you are going to get wet regardless of it. But, it does make enjoying the scenery a lot harder. Thankfully, by the time we were ready to get on the river, the rain had stopped.

The portion of Kennebec river that we rafted spans about 11 miles, the early part of the river had a lot of white water to make it very interesting, the latter part of the river is a lot more calmer and allows for swimming or just laying back and enjoying the wonderful scenery.

All in all, this was an absolutely wonderful trip. For first timers, a river like the Kennebec should be amply challenging and fun. For those who seek something a little more exciting should check out the sister Dead river that runs about 16 miles and is white water throughout.

I will definitely be going back for some more white water rafting. I wholeheartedly suggest those who’ve been thinking of doing it, to do it!

Be sure to check out my wife’s post and her gallery for all the pictures.

Cheers
