The NFL and free agency

The NFL free agency period is in full swing and many teams have capitalized on the availability of some very good players to add to their rosters. Some teams like the Cleveland Browns have added key players to strengthen all aspects of their roster. Whereas, other teams like the Patriots have watched many of their key contributors sign with other teams.

One player in particular that I was interested to learn the fate of was Terrell Owens. The Eagles released him saving, not only, cap space but the distraction that he had become. This lead to speculations of where he might end up. The Cowboys ended the speculations by signing Owens to a 3-year deal. Most fans will remember that Owens was fined for celebrating on the Dallas Star in their stadium.

Bill Parcells is more of a strict coach then Andy Reid could ever dream of being. The Owens signing sure seems intriguing and perhaps it’s more of Jerry Jones’ doing as opposed to Parcells. Owens didn’t get the big deal that he was hoping to get from the Eagles, and now has to deal with a coach that is even less likely to deal with his antics. An interesting signing indeed.

All the Pats fans are wondering when Belichick and Pioli will stop the bleeding and start filling in the gaps left by the loss of Givens (Givens signs with Titans), McGinest (McGinest signs with Browns), Poole and the potential loss of Ashworth, Vinatieri.

Interesting free agency indeed.

Cheers
