Avenging violence with violence

The world is cyclic. It doesn’t take a deep thinking philosopher to come up with this realization. When one group puts down another group, the latter group will eventually get it’s turn on top. The collective cognitive power of all the philosophers, however, can not come up with a reasoning for the escalating violence of extremists Muslims against the world.

For better or worse the religions in this world are here to stay. One would imagine that it is in our best interest to work out an amicable way of living with each other. However, this seems to be beyond the grasp of us mere mortals.

The latest incident in this ugly chapter of humanity played out on the University of North Carolina campus where a recent immigrant graduate from Iran decided he would ’spread the will of Allah’ by mowing down innocent students in a common gathering place.

Being non-religious I have the opportunity to look at this from an outsiders perspective. It absolutely dumbfounds me that these extremists perpetrate willful carnage and somehow explain it away as the will of some God. Islam in no way condones violence against others, Muslim or not, and yet some contrive their actions as the will of Allah.

Where will this sort of madness take us? Who is going to retaliate next? Muslims the world over owe it to themselves and their religion to ensure that a handful of extremists do not portray all of them as infidel killing zealots.
