Adventures in Skiing

Having lived in the Northeast for many years, I’d never given skiing much thought or concern. But after moving to within 15 minutes of Wachusett mountain, Geeta and I decided that we should give skiing a go.

We arrived at the base of the mountain just before noon and paid for our lessons and rental. Then onto the rental shop to get our gear. The boots were first and let me tell you, those were some tough things to get into and walk around. In contrast the actual act of skiing seemed all too easy.

That is, of course, until we actually joined our team of first time skiers and began the task of learning how to ski without causing ourselves or anyone in our vicinity great damage. I, thankfully, can say that I did not manage to fall through the hour and half lesson, but learned quite a bit.

Geeta, on the other hand, did fall a few times but did remarkably well towards the latter part of our day when attempting to the task at her own pace. We are both sore, but enjoyed our first outing to the slopes and hope to get back to practicing all that we’ve been taught today.

Our only complaint came from our feet being cramped into marginal rental boots. Having had a taste of the fun of skiing, we might consider investing some money on a set of boots that will be a better fit for us and cause us less pain in the end for it.

Cheers
