Goobuntu anyone?

Google was rumored to be working on releasing some sort of an OS to compete with Microsoft and compliment it’s Google PC deployment. There is finally word now of what a possible ‘Google OS’ might look like and it appears to be a customized version of Ubuntu Linux. Ubuntu is based on Debian and was created to provide new releases in a more timely manner.

For anyone who’s followed the Linux community even remotely will know that there are already at least a dozen different distributions. Most will be able to name the big guys like Redhat, Debian, Slackware, and SuSE.

What is Google’s version of Ubuntu going to do that is going to separate it from the rest? Google could possibly be trying to provide a complete solution with the cheap Google PC running Google OS to compete with Wintel PC’s.

Cheers
