Live West Wing Debate
I’ve enjoyed watching The West Wing for the past six or so years that it’s been on the air. The show usually used to air on Wednesday’s at 9PM, but recently has made the move to Sunday’s.
Is this an indication of dwindling interest and a possible end to the series? I surely hope not! But, I’ve noticed that shows that don’t perform well for a period of time tend to get shuffled around, re-cast and re-molded in ways to attract a larger audience.
The West Wing has been a wonderful drama in my view not only for the actors that portray various government officials, but also for the writing that has been exceptional. The show is funny while also smart, something very few shows manage to pull off these days.
This past Sunday’s episode was a live airing of a debate between two presidential candidates. The format resembled the debates we’ve watched between George W. Bush and John Kerry in the 2004 Presidential campaigns, but the rules were ignored and allowed for a fist-to-fist debate on the current hot topics.
The writers did a very good job of pulling in some of the hot button issues surrounding the current administration while also dealing with some persistent issues.
I, for one, thoroughly enjoyed the episode and hope to enjoy the show for a few more seasons. I’m also very curious to see who the next “President” will be as it seems the actors themselves haven’t been told.
Cheers
