Third and goal
It is now halftime between the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pats are not riding a nice 14-10 cushion over the Steelers. Why? Because in a game that has been error prone from the beginning, Brady has thrown an interception.
Of course, the interception isn’t necessarily Brady’s fault as it was tipped at the line of scrimmage and made it into the hands of a Steeler DB. When Kevin Faulk is having such a good time running the ball, I cringe to think about the train of thought that causes the offense to try a throw when that surely hasn’t worked for them.
Additionally, had the ball not be tipped up, David Givens had already fallen and was trying to get up when the ball came his way, so the play would have been for naught anyway.
The two glaring issues I’ve seen with the patriots in the two and half games in this season is; 1) They are causing a large number of penalties that was almost unheard of in the past few years. 2) The offensive play calling hasn’t been the best combination thus far. The play calls do not seem to take advantage of the players and the scenarios in the game. Is someone just reading off a scripted play-calling sheet or what? Perhaps here is where the lack of a bona-fide offensive coordinator is really hurting the Patriots.
Additionally, the injury bug seems to be hitting the Pats early this season. My only hope is that the injuries to Harrison and Light are not anything serious.
My big question through the past 3 game is, where the hell is Corey Dillon? The running game hasn’t been anywhere near what it was last year. And Dillon’s performance thus far has been very uncharacteristic for a player capable of rushing for over 2000 yards in a season.
So come on Pats, get yourself together and let’s beat the Steelers!
Cheers
