OS X to be locked to Macs
Apple reported a week or so ago that they were switching from using IBM PowerPC chips to Intel X86 chips for their Mac’s.
Of course, the first question most people had was how are they going to prevent users of X86 PC’s from Dell or anyone else from running OS X?
The answer, it would seem, is a chip from TMP (Trusted Computing Group) that would allow OS X to securely determine if it is being run on Mac hardware or some other manufacturer.
Motorola uses a similar concept of adding a small chip to their boards which contain proprietary information to ensure that the hardware is indeed Motorola’s own.
So PC folks are will have to continue using Windows, Linux and other variants. Not that it matters much to me as I’ve never used Macs for long anyway.
Cheers
