The fate of Terri Schiavo
It seems everyone has a say in what is to become of Terri Schiavo short of Terri Schiavo herself. Nonetheless, the legal wrangling over her life and her death has been going on for some seven odd years. The past couple of months have seem some very intense steps by Schiavo’s husband, her parents, the United States Congress and President Bush himself.
To say I don’t know the whole history behind the battle for this woman would be an understatement. My entire knowledge about this issue can easily be summed up as: Terri was young when she had a stroke, has brain damage and has been kept alive by medical equipment for the better part of 15 years.
To truly understand the history of this case, check out this excellent post by Hilzoy.
My personal stance on this case would be to side with the countless medical doctors that have testified under oath and otherwise that Terri Schiavo has deteriorated to a point where there can be no meaningful recovery. To sustain a persons life with machinery who would other succumb and die is just wrong.
The politicians involvement in this case is purely for their own political gains, they don’t care about the fate of this poor woman.
Cheers
