Lord of the Rings Trilogy

Lord of the Rings - Box Set The extended box set versions of the Lord of the Rings movies were released a little while ago and I managed to get my hands on the set. The box set contains 12 DVDs, each movie is comprised of 2 DVDs each.

The first movie, Fellowship of the Ring, contains close to 30 minutes of extra footage and a couple of new scenes. The theatrical release though didn’t miss anything of great importance.

The second movie, The Two Towers, contains about 43 minutes of extra footage and a few new scenes. The extra footage provides greater depth of character and story.

The third movie, The Return of the King, contains close to an hour of extra footage including some 7 new scenes and almost 35 extended scenes. Of the previous two movies, this final one is where the director Peter Jackson cut out the most pieces.

In my viewing of the third film, I felt that Jackson saved a large amount of the story for the final movie and then had to cut out many of the relevant scenes to make the movie fit with a certain time frame.

I haven’t had the time to sit and watch the 6 DVDs of extras that come with the box-set explaining every intricate detail of the filming process, but will do so when I get the time. :)

Overall, I would highly recommend this box set for fans of the books and movies. Anyone who enjoyed watching the theatrical releases of these three films will definitely enjoy the extended versions.

Cheers
