Are you 4 l33t h4ck3r??
Everyone remembers the story on Slashdot.org about the brand new installation of Microsoft Windows that was connected to the Internet without any protection in hopes of getting it upgraded/patched before being compromised. The futility of such an endeavor was a cold reminder of how unsafe the Internet is and so is using an unprotected Windows machine.
Here comes a new challenge deemed the Server Break-in Challenge by Linuxense in India.
The challenge is simple. A Linux machine will be connected to the Internet for 96 hours without a firewall. The object is to hack into the box and make it unavailable for anyone else. The company will track all attempts and will release the logs once the challenge is complete for analysis. The challenge begins on March 9th 2005 at 2 AM IST (Indian Standard Time).
Let’s see how long a Linux based machine can hold up against the onslaught that is sure to come.
Cheers
