Samsung DLP

Back on August 19th of 2004 I wrote a post wondering whether a TV using DLP, LCD, or LCoS technology was the best for me. It has now been six months since I posted that article and I thought I’d give a small update and review on the TV I did decide to buy.

After much deliberations, visits to electronic stores like Best Buy, Circuit City, and Tweeter and looking at offerings from various manufacturers in all the above mentioned formats, we finally decided on getting the Samsung 50″ DLP, model # HLP5063W.

I had the opportunity to watch a bunch of football games and all the regular shows I watch in high definition and I must say that the results are spectacular. The clarity and color are truly awe inspiring. The 50″ size of the TV lends itself very well to the size of my room and thus to the viewing experience.

The reason I went with the DLP as opposed to LCD and LCoS were pretty simple. LCoS TV’s have not gone through the iterations that DLP TV’s have and as such things might not be stable the first coupe of model years. LCD has been around for a long time but the stuck pixel effect and general blurring during fast movement of the screen kept me away from this technology.

People complain about the DLP’s not being able to generate the utterly dark blacks like the LCD, but very seldom will you want to watch anything that is that dark anyway.

All in all, I’m extremely happy with our choice for a TV.

Cheers
