Movies in Animation

I first saw Toy Story, a collaboration between Pixar Studios and the Walt Disney Company, as a young Computer Science sophomore. More than being bowled over by the graphics, stunningly amazing for it’s time, I was down right laughing hysterically at the story.

During the initial stages of the movie I was involved in the requisite starring at pixels and trying to figure out what sorts of hardware and software were behind this amazing feat as is expected of any young CS student, but shortly I found that I was more enthralled in the story and characters and less in their digital makeup.

In the end I walked away from the movie thoroughly entertained and not feeling guilty of having seen a kiddy-movie. The collaboration that brought us Toy Story, then brought has Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc., and possibly my favorite, Finding Nemo.

Now this duo is out with it’s next iteration, The Icredibles. I now eagerly await it’s arrival in movie theaters. But alas, this is also the beginning of the end of the collaboration that has brought us such wonderful films. The Icredibles is the first of two final films that will be produced by Pixar for Disney. No word yet on what the last film will be, but when that task has been finished, Pixar will seek new suitors. What is to become of the quality of films we have almost come to expect when we see or hear the Disney name when associated with Pixar, no-one knows.

In the meanwhile, C|Net News is running an article about the magic behind the characters of The Incredible. Incredible indeed. :)

Cheers
